(Information updated Thursday, April 17)

As part of Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) bridge reconstruction projects this year on I-35W, there will be several significant impacts to MVTA bus service. Starting in mid-April 2025, three bridge construction projects in Burnsville will create delays and route adjustments for affected bus routes. MVTA urges all riders to stay informed about service changes.

Construction Projects Impacting Bus Routes:

1. Cliff Road Under I-35W: Full Closure (April 2025 – October 2026)

  • What’s Happening: Cliff Road will be fully closed under I-35W from mid-April 2025 through October 2026.
  • Impact on Bus Service: This closure may cause delays for routes traveling in the vicinity of Cliff Road, including Orange LINK.

2. Highway 13 Bridge Over I-35W:

On Wednesday, April 16, Highway 13 westbound traffic will be shifted to the eastbound side and single lane/head-to-head traffic over 35W will begin.

  • What’s Happening: The demolition of the westbound Highway 13 bridge over I-35W is scheduled to begin in April. Westbound traffic will be shifted to a single lane on eastbound Highway 13, creating single-lane traffic over I-35W. This project is expected to be completed by October 2025.
  • Impact on Bus Service: The 4FUN Bus and Route 495 will experience timing delays due to the restricted traffic flow around the bridge. Route 460, Route 465, and Route 480 will also see delays, particularly on southbound trips returning to Burnsville Transit Station. Expect delays during peak hours.

3. Burnsville Parkway Over I-35W:

Burnsville Parkway closing over 35W beginning Wednesday, April 16.  Route 444 detours will be in place for northbound and southbound routes.

  • What’s Happening: Demolition of the Burnsville Parkway bridge and full closure of eastbound and westbound traffic over I-35W is scheduled to begin in April. The new bridge is scheduled to be completed and reopen by October 2025.
  • Impact on Bus Service: Route 444 will be rerouted beginning April 16 due to the full closure of the Burnsville Parkway bridge. Riders can expect detours and potential delays along this route during construction.

Route 444 Detour information

Both northbound and southbound Route 444 will be on detour to avoid construction work at the Burnsville Parkway I-35W bridge.

The northbound route will cross I-35W at County Road 42, which will add about 10 minutes to northbound trips.

The shelter stop at Burnsville Parkway and Aldrich Avenue is currently closed during construction. A temporary stop has been added 1 block west at Burnsville Parkway and Dupont Avenue SE Corner.

With the current closure of the shelter stop at Burnsville Parkway and Aldrich Avenue, a temporary stop has been added at Burnsville Parkway and Dupont Avenue.

The stop at Burnsville Parkway and Travelers Trail will be closed during construction. Route 444 northbound riders who normally board at Burnsville Parkway and Travelers Trail are advised to board at Burnsville Parkway at Harriet Ave. S, which is 1 block east of the Travelers Trail intersection.

The southbound route will use Highway 13 during this phase of construction to cross I-35W. This detour will add about 15 minutes to southbound trips.

Construction work has closed access to two southbound stops:  Burnsville Parkway/Gateway Boulevard and Burnsville Parkway/Travelers Trail. A temporary bus stop has been added on the detour route directly across from the Orange Line Station on Travelers Trail.

Two Route 444 southbound stops are currently closed during construction. The two closed stops are Burnsville Parkway/Gateway Boulevard and Burnsville Parkway/Travelers Trail. A temporary stop has been opened across from the Orange Line Station (green dot).

Riders are advised to consider taking earlier trips during construction to account for timing delays.
