Who We Are

Minnesota Valley Transit Authority (MVTA) is the public transportation agency serving seven cities throughout the south metropolitan area, throughout Dakota and Scott counties, including Apple Valley, Burnsville, Eagan, Rosemount, Prior Lake, Savage, and Shakopee. MVTA is one of several independent bus transportation providers formed in the late 1980s under state legislation that allowed outer-ring suburbs to form the Suburban Transit Association.

MVTA operates local, express, reverse commute, and suburb-to-suburb service, as well as MVTA Connect microtransit and event service offerings.

MVTA is governed by an eight-member board of elected officials or their designees. Each of the seven cities appoints one member to the MVTA Board and one city staff member as an alternate member. A Scott County commissioner fills the remaining seat.

Mission

MVTA’s core mission is to provide transformative transportation services to those who live, work, and play in our communities.

Vision

Establish MVTA as the most connected transit agency through service, innovation, technology, and partnerships.
